California Hybrid/EV Laws And Incentives

Hybrid or EV Laws & Incentives in California

California drivers enjoy some of the most scenic roadways in the country. In addition, they enjoy exceptional incentives and benefits when they choose to cruise those roads in a hybrid or electric vehicle. For example, the HOV or diamond lane is reserved for carpool vehicles during rush hour unless you are driving a qualifying hybrid or EV such as the Chevy Bolt or the Bolt EUV. Drivers also enjoy driving on the High Occupancy Toll road for free when hitting the road in their Bolt or Bolt EUV. But that is only the beginning of the benefits of going hybrid or EV in California.

California Clean Fuel Reward

The California Clean Fuel Reward is offered to drivers who purchase an EV with a battery capacity greater than 5kWh. The vehicle must be registered in the state, and the owner must reside in California. The reward is based on a sliding scale that depends on the size of the vehicle’s battery. In the case of the Chevy Bolt, you would earn the full $1,500 reward for your environmentally friendly car purchase.

Clean Vehicle Rebate Project

California is proud to lead the nation in clean vehicles, including EV and hybrid models. The Clean Vehicle Rebate Program is a way to motivate drivers to purchase these environmentally-friendly vehicles and protect the state and planet. At this time, the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV is eligible for a $2,000 rebate, while the 2017 to 202 Chevy Bolt EV also earns proud new owners a $2,000 rebate.

Cash Back For Installing An EV Charging Station At Home

The South Coast Air Quality Management District and the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee are working together to offer EV owners an incentive to purchase a charging station for their homes. The initial rebate is $250 for a Level 2 charger. The rebate increases to $500 for a Level 2 charger installed by a driver who qualifies as low income. The charging station must be 240v and be installed by a licensed electrician if there are no 240v outlets available for self-installation.

Cash Back For Anaheim Residents

Residents living in Anaheim can apply for a rebate from the Anaheim Public Utilities after installing a Level 2 charging station at their homes. The rebate is up to $400 for customers not using the Time Of Use Plan. However, if you sign up for the Time of Use Plan and install the charging station, your rebate could be as much as $1,000.

Owning a hybrid or electric vehicle in California offers many benefits in addition to the reduced cost of fuel. It is a great way to reduce the harmful emissions and showing the rest of the world that residents of California care about and appreciate the value of the natural beauty and wonder of the state.
