Performance and Payload
Under the hood of the Silverado 3500HD, there are two engine options to choose from, both of which are offered with RWD and available 4WD. Standard for the 3500HD is a 6.6-liter gas V-8 that generates 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque and delivers that power with the assistance of a six-speed automatic transmission. For ultimate capability, the 6.6-liter turbodiesel B-8 that develops 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque with a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission, is the way to go. Towing for the Silverado 3500HD top out at 16,800 pounds for gas variants, and 17,200 pounds with a gooseneck. The diesel is even more capable, towing at 20,000 pounds from the hitch and up to 36,000 pounds with a gooseneck.
Cab and Bed Space
There are three different cab options offered for the 2022 Silverado 3500HD – regular, double, and crew. For the regular cab, you can seat three across a front bench, with 44.5 inches of legroom, while the double cab offers seats for six with 35.2 inches of rear legroom, and 40.1 inches in the crew cab. There are regular and long-bed options to choose from, the standard bed measuring at 82.3 inches long, and 71.4 inches wide with a total cargo space of 69.5 cubic feet. Reaching 98.3 inches long, the long bed delivers 83.5 cubic feet of space and has the same width and height as the regular bed option.
All trim levels of the Silverado 3500HD come with a touchscreen infotainment display, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Lower trims have a 7.0-inch display while LT trims and above carry an 8.0-inch touchscreen. Standard inside the Work Truck trim is just two speakers for its audio system, while higher trims get a six-speaker setup or seven-speaker Bose system for the High Country level. As trim levels go up, the instrument cluster goes uo as well, from 3.5 inches to a full 8.0-inches of gauge display.
